About The Project
Background
The History Museum of Armenia was founded by a law passed by the Parliament of the First Republic of Armenia and opened to visitors on August 20, 1921. It was established based on the collections from various sources, including the Armenian Ethnographical Association of the Caucasus and the Museum of Antiquities of Ani. The museum houses a national collection of approximately 400,000 objects, categorized into departments such as Archeology, Ethnography, Numismatics, and Documents.
The museum showcases the history and culture of Armenia from prehistoric times to the present, highlighting the cultural interactions between the Armenian Highland and ancient civilizations such as Egypt, Mitany, Assyria, and the Byzantine Empire. It has an exceptional collection of bronze artifacts from the 3rd-2nd millennia BC, wooden carts and chariots from the 15th-14th centuries BC, and artifacts from the Urartu Kingdom.
